“Bilingual Speech and Educational Evaluations” is the latest book from SECOND LANGUAGE, LITERACY & LEARNING CONNECTION, LLC as a response to the cry from many practitioners struggling with the accurate method to evaluate children who are Early Language Learners.  The book includes specific guidance as to how to conduct ethnographic surveys of parents which are critical to differential diagnosis of difference versus disorder; how to present critical information in a non biased way relevant for culturally linguistically diverse children; and conveyance of information relative to formulating a plan to determine who needs to be evaluated and in what language. Lastly this book will teach how to provide accurate and timely information to parents during an assessment as to validate the results obtained during the assessment process.

Overall practitioners will be provided information on dynamic assessment and an alternative testing procedure that is non-biased in nature and validly depicts language and literacy learning potential of diverse learners. This guide provides examples from this author’s professional journals containing actual reports and examples of how to present information in the LANGUAGE BACKGROUND AND USE sections of reports as well as information necessary to put forth in the ETHNOGRAPHIC SECTION of the report.

This is the closest this author has come to laying down her version of a cook book method of presentation of abstract material into an organized how to guide. This will avail information to the reader that will help guide their understanding of SLA they can use when working with clients and their families.

"Deborah's new book Bilingual Speech-Language and Educational Evaluations provides a user friendly, common-sense recipe for professionals charged with conducting assessments with ELLs and clarifies the requirements of such an assessment for administrators" B. Muller, CCC/SLP

“The material presented in the book is down-to-earth, practical, easy to understand, and long overdue. What educator has not struggled with labeling issues, particularly in cases where a student is classified in such a way that he or she does not end up getting the help, support, and educational framework that would really help. Particularly with second language learners, we professionals owe it to our students to leave no stone unturned in our search for the underlying causes of second language learning problems.” Rob Siedenburg, former foreign language teacher and publishing specialist
